Lady Gaiters tie Montreal, drop to 1-8-1 with loss to Laval
October 14, 2003   Bishop's Sports Information

In a season where everything seemed to be going against the Lady Gaiters, the team finally got a break Saturday afternoon against the Montreal Carabins. Despite being outplayed for the majority of the full ninety minutes, the team squeaked out a 1-1 tie on the strength of a goal from Celina Groudin in the final minutes of the game.

“This season everything seems to be going against us,” said head coach Michael Richardson after the contest. “But today, despite playing a poor game we somehow came away with a draw, so although I am not happy with our play, it’s time that something went our way.”

Monday afternoon was a different story however as the team traveled to Laval to face the top ranked Rouge et Or. Laval jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before Bishop’s could respond with three goals in kind, but it would not be enough as the Rouge et Or won the game 7-3. Shannon Marshall led the way for the Gaiters with two goals.

“The team just came out slow and you can’t do that against Laval,” said Richardson. “They came out pressing really hard in the second half, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”

The team’s next home game with be Sunday, October 19 against McGill. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
