Women's rugby season coming to a
close The Lady Gaiters rugby team went 1-2, and finished in third place at the Jonathan Chase Memorial Rugby Tournament hosted by the Vermont Law School in South Royalton, Vt. Bishop's won their first game, a 25-0 decision over St. Michael's College from Burlington, Vt. Larissa Gibson opened up the scoring on a nice run from about 25 meters out, followed by scores by Ashley Newman, Mary Jane Court and Valerie Dessaulles. Jenna Logan, who played the bulk of the year at hooker but back row in Vermont, provided close support and was rewarded with a try to round out the scoring. Bishop's dropped their second game 17-12 to Norwich Military Academy. Norwich jumped out to a 10-0 in the first half, but the Gaiters rebounded in the second. Dessaulles opened the scoring for Bishop's, followed by a major by team captain Kelly Butler. Dessaulles converted the second score to put the Gaiters ahead 12-10. Norwich went ahead for good 15-12 soon after, and added the convert to put them up 17-12. Without two veterans, who had to return to Lennoxville, the Gaiters dropped their final game against the Vermont Law School 27-17. The Law School jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Court evened the score 5-5. The Law School scored again before the half making it 10-5. The Gaiters came out roaring in the second, as speedy first-year winger Jocelyn Molyneux even the contest 10-10. The Gaiters then jumped ahead when Butler ran a ball in from 10 meters out. Karyn Hornblower kicked the convert to make it 17-10. However, the Gaiters appeared to run out of gas as the Law School came back to even the score, then add two more tries in the last two minutes of the game to make the final score 27-17. Bishop's has its final game of the season on Nov. 7 against Dalhousie at home. Game time is 4 p.m.
