Near and far, they are coming to Lennoxville!
Lady Gaiters host first ever inaugural rugby tournament
October 9, 2003   Bishop's Sports Information

The Bishops University Lady Gaiter Rugby Football Club will be hosting their first ever fifteens rugby tournament on Saturday, Oct.11 at Optimist Park in Lennoxville, Quebec. The original idea behind the tournament was to take advantage of BU's geographic position and host a Canadian-American tournament.

“It was first discussed last fall,” says Lady Gaiters head coach Jim Scheib. “The real work began in July. Slowly teams came aboard and it really started to develop from there.”

Within the league, Bishop’s already plays most teams twice so the idea behind the tournament was to play some different sides. The concept was to find some American schools to come and play Bishop’s, but unfortunately many American schools already had their schedule’s made for the season.

Most school’s played on Thanksgiving (Columbus Day in the US) and therefore it made it near impossible to get those school’s up to Lennoxville to play. After some last minute cancellations the following teams will be participating this weekend.:John Abbott College, Bentley College from Walthan, Massachusetts, and Bishop’s
The first game will be at 11AM Saturday morning between Bentley and John Abbott. The second game will be at 1:30 between John Abbott and BU. The third game will be between BU and Bentley at about 3:30. The winner will be awarded the trophy following the third game.

Be sure to get out and support your Gaiters Saturday afternoon as they look to keep this inaugural trophy in Lennoxville. Stay tuned to www.ubishops.ca/Gaiters for all of your women’s rugby action.
