Oh, what a rugby rush! The Bishop's University Lady Gaiters improved their record to 3-2 Wednesday night as the team began to gel during a 27-12 victory over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or. During the match Bishop's displayed improved ball control, continually controlling rucks and forcing Sherbrooke to turn the ball over on numerous occasions. "The girls are really coming together," said head coach Jim Scheib after the victory. "The determination that they have demonstrated in practice is really starting to pay off. On the opening possession we just kept rucking over, and kept control of the ball all the way down the field for a try." That dominance that the Lady Gaiters showed in the opening minutes continued throughout the match as the team scored five try's, with Larissa Gibson leading the way with two. "This is already one of the most successful teams that Bishop's has put together," said Scheib. "They are an athletic group that is still learning the game somewhat, but each game they get better and better." This weekend Bishop's will play host to the first ever Lady Gaiters invitation rugby tournament. Currently the format will involved three teams, starting on Saturday morning at 11:30 at Optimist field. Scheib has been working on organizing the inaugural tournament since mid-June and is excited at the prospect. "It's definitely going to be a good show and it will be another opportunity for the girls to gain some important experience," says Scheib. |
