Polar Bears hit the ice
Coach Karl Hunting on the first half of the season
January 19, 2004 Bishop's Sports Information

The season started early this year for the Bishop’s University Polar Bears women’s ice hockey team. The first weekend in October found the team in Ottawa, Ontario playing the Carlton Ravens. The team’s lack of experience showed in a 11-0 loss. Two weeks later in  the return game at home the team demonstrated some improvement in a 7-0 loss. After going 1-2 against eh Sherbrooke All-Stars the team lost a close game in Montreal to Dawson College 4-3.

November proved that the team was coming together with a good showing at the Women’s West Island Tournament. After tying their first game 1-1 against the TMR Falcons, the team beat Le Maski 4-1. They then lost to the eventual tournament winners Westwood 4-0 in the semi-final.

The new year found the Polar Bears in Lewestown, Maine for two games against the Bates College Bobcats. Friday night the Bears jumped out to an early three goal lead and cruised to a 6-3 victory. Scoring for the Bears was Kim Pursell with two goals with singles from Cindel Chartrand, Michelle McKay, Karen Stowe and Kim Johnston. Goalies Danielle Breau and Maryse Richard shared in the victory.

Saturday afternoon’s game turned into a shootout leading to a 5-5 overtime tie. Leading the Bears in scoring was Cindel Chartrand with three goals and singles going to Michelle McKay and Kara Stowe. Once again the goaltending was shared.

The Polar Bears next game is Saturday night January 24 at Middlebury, Vermont against the Middlebury Otters.
