Golf Team Report

The Bishop’s University Golf Team got off to a quick start last Saturday in the first of four provincial tournaments. Held at the Club de Golf Isle D’Orleans outside of Quebec City, the team was led by two 77, shot by Ryan Starrar and Jeff Strevens, both first year Bishop’s students. Another first year player, Mike Powell, shot 82. Team captain Eric Lagarde shot an 84, rookie Adam Bulow shot 86, Brandon Stevens shot 93 and Richard Urano shot 92. The scoring system used for the tournament was to take the team’s best five rounds, putting Bishop’s squarely in the middle of the pack.

History was made Saturday when the first ever woman suited up for the Gaiters golf team. Marie-France Graves became the first woman from Bishop’s to play CIS golf in the womens division. While she shot a 105, Marie-France demonstrated significant improvement on the back nine, and made a giant step for women’s golf at Bishop’s University.

The team plays next week at Trois Rivieres Friday and the week after will play at Sherbrooke. Bishop’s will also play host for a tournament, held Saturday October 4th, 2003 at the Dufferin Heights Golf Club.
