Where in the world is: Andre Bynoe
From Lennoxville to Copenhagen!
May 14, 2004   Bishop's Sports Information

Andre Bynoe is the second Bishop's Gaiter to head overseas after the 2003 season. Bynoe joins Sylvain Desrochers, currently playing for the Thonon Panthers in Thonon les Bains France, and will be playing for the Copenhagen Towers.

Canadian RB #32 André Bynoe arrived in Copenhagen just in time to get acquainted with the Towers and take part in three practices before the season opener.

For the past few years the Towers have lacked a power RB with breakaway speed, except Canadian Mike Lynch, who ran the ball with great success in the last two games of the 2003 season.

The Towers coaching staff was determined to improve on the overall offensive production so finding a quality RB was very high on the off-season to-do-list. Head coach Rasmus Ryberg contacted player agent Anthony Brown in Canada and requested a list of RBs who were interested in playing in Europe.

On the top of that list was former Bishop's University Gaiters 4-year star André Bynoe. Bynoe was a social studies major and graduated in 2003 after a 5-year college career.

Bynoe was the Gaiters' leading rusher for three years straight from 2001 to 2003. Over those three years he amassed 1.388 yards rushing with a 5,4 yard average and 7 TDs. Furthermore Bynoe had a 9,4 yard average and a TD on receptions out of the backfield. The Gaiters employed an option-based offense that saw many players run with the ball and not a very strong emphasis on the passing game.

At practice André plays hard and sets high standards for himself as well as the rest of the team. Our defense has quickly learned that André knows only one speed – full speed – and that he will readily lower his shoulders and bowl over defenders. When he doesn't run through people, André impresses with his quick footwork and tackle-breaking moves.

In the short time that André has been in Denmark, he has already shown himself as a dedicated team player. André helps coach the Towers' youth teams as well as the 2nd team at the adult level.

Bynoe has been warmly welcomed by his new teammates, who find him to be a very easy-going person, but with a tough competitive streak. He will clearly fit in well with the team.

This is the first time André visits Europe, so he plans to spend the month of July traveling around the continent by train.

The Towers organization is very happy to have André with us and we have high hopes for our season with André running the ball.
