Bishop's hosts Purple and Silver
Twenty of the nations top football recruits visit Bishop's

    The annual Bishop’s University Purple and Silver banquet took place over the weekend, with top football recruits from around the country attending. Traditionally it’s Bishop’s largest recruiting weekend of the year, as 20 recruits were given the opportunity to check out the university and to meet and greet with current and former Gaiters.

“It was a great weekend, we were able to bring in some top-quality student athletes,” says Gaiters head coach and Bishop’s Athletic Director Tony Addona. “The wonderful thing about this weekend is that it is an opportunity for the future to meet with the past, for former Gaiters to share stories of what they went through when selecting a university.”

            Former Gaiter and Hamilton TigerCat Wally Zatylny chaired the event, and spoke of the decision he made when he was a student at Champlain College in Lennoxville to come to Bishop’s.

            “Wally did an excellent job of describing his situation, what he wanted out of a university and the benefits of Bishop’s extensive Alumni network when he was finished as a student at Bishop’s,” says Addona. “A number of former Gaiters were in attendance, (the Purple and Silver dinner) is an event that is very important in the overall recruiting process, it might be the catalyst that pushes a student athlete to choose Bishop’s University.”

            Among former Gaiters to attend the event included Tony Harris, Jake Vaughan, Gary Chown, Al Matheson, Peter Davidson, Paul McHenry, Doug Johnson, Danny Bohinc, and football alumni president Trevor Lovig.
