Gaiter Football adds NCAA experience to coaching staff
Former Northeaster offensive lineman brought in to coach O-Line

An athletic letterman at Division I AA Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, Richard Parenteau Jr.’s roots are firmly entrenched in the Eastern Townships. Growing up, the talented offensive and defensive lineman played at Bishop’s College School for three years, just across the river from Bishop’s University.

Parenteau remembers fondly watching the Gaiters during their impressive playoff runs in the late 80’s and early 90’s and now that he works in the region as the President of International Recruitment and Placement Consultant for Can-Am Construction based in Magog, Parenteau will get his chance to become an integral part of the Gaiter family when next season he takes to the sidelines as offensive line coach.

“I’m very excited,” says Parenteau of the opportunity to coach at Bishop’s. “I haven’t gotten to meet the players yet, but anything I can do to help the program I’m willing to do.”

Parenteau (26) played for Northeastern from 1996 until he graduated in 2000 and left a lasting impression on Huskies strength and conditioning coach Joel St. Cyr.

“(Richard) is one of the hardest working guys that ever came through this program,” says St. Cyr who worked with Parenteau during his time at Northeastern. “Rich is a great motivator, he was always a leader and a very hard worker, and I’m sure he will be a great coach.”

Gaiter head coach Tony Addona agrees with St. Cyr’s assessment of Parenteau Junior.

“We are very pleased with having Richard being able to work with our offensive line,” says Addona. “He competed at a very high level in university and will be able to relate to the players the techniques he learned at Northeastern.”

Parenteau’s brother Marc, who played for Boston College from 1999 until 2003, will also help out with the Gaiter offensive line.

“Marc will be there to help out when he can,” says Parenteau. “I’m going to bring a lot of energy to the offensive line and I played the same position that they are playing right now, so I can relate to the athletes.”

Parenteau will start working with the team during spring camp.
