Head coach Larry Legault resigns from Bishop's

Lennoxville, QC - The Bishop's Gaiters Athletic Department announced Thursday afternoon that Larry Legault has resigned from his position as Head Football Coach after a seven year affiliation with the team.

Legault, who prior to joining the Gaiters in 1997 had coached for AAA CEGEP's Vieux Montreal and Vanier and at the CIS level with Mount Allison and Ottawa, had previously been the team's offensive coordinator before taking over the head coaching position in 2002.

"Bishop's University would like to thank Larry for his dedication and loyalty to the football program and Athletic Department as a whole," said Athletic Director Tony Addona. "Larry is a first class person who gave of himself unselfishly for the betterment of the programme. Bishop's University wishes him all the best in his future endeavors."

Legault joined the Athletic Department at Bishop's University in 1997 as the offensive coordinator/recreation assistant and last year was promoted to Head Coach of the football team after former head coach Tom Allen retired at the end of the 2001 season.

"However difficult it is for me to step down, family considerations make this decision the right one for me," said Legault Thursday morning. "I've very much enjoyed my seven years at Bishop's University; over that time my varied responsibilities within the Athletic Department provided an enriching experience. Bishop's is a great school that really puts people at the centre of the process. I will sorely miss my colleagues and the young men on the squad and wish them all only the very best in the future."

In the interim Athletic Director Tony Addona will take over the head coaching responsibilities for the team until a suitable replacement can be found.

"We will go on a national search to find the right candidate to lead Bishop's University back to the forefront of QIFC football and its traditional winning ways," said Addona. "I will assume all responsibilities and duties associated with the head coaching position until the right candidate is found."
