On the rebound Recovering from a loss is never easy, it requires an innate ability to dig deep within oneself, understand that life will go on, and focus on the next one. For the Bishop’s Gaiters, the next one is a homecoming match up with the Montreal Carabins, a week after a devastating 92-3 loss to the number 4 ranked Laval Rouge et Or that saw Bishop's Putting a game like that into perspective is difficult, but Gaiters head coach Larry Legault had some advice for his team afterwards. “You have to forget about it,” said Legault. “You don’t have a choice, what else are you going to do that to just put it aside and focus on next weekend.” Legault was not happy with his team’s performance, one that saw Mathieu Bertrand garner CIS player of the week honours with a 408 yard performance, five touchdowns through the air and two with his feet, against a youthful Gaiter defence. “Objectively we are playing a team that has two offensive lineman returning from CFL camps, a quarterback returning from CFL camp in his sixth year with the team, it was really not pretty from beginning to end,” said Legault. “When they had the ball they took only 13 plays to score three times. To open the game they took the ball at their own 26, and four running plays later they scored. And it didn’t get much better after that.” The team now must throw away the Laval loss, and focus on what is being billed as the most important game of the season. Montreal, who went winless last year, is riding a four game winning streak into Lennoxville Saturday, and this game very well could determine Bishop’s playoff fate. “As a team we feel that we can win all four of our remaining games,” says Legault. “Part of the maturing of an athlete is to understand the competitive realities of the situation. This is Laval’s year to win the Vanier Cup, they have veteran players across the board. For our part, it’s not at all negative to simply say it’s time to move on.” Game time for this Saturday’s match up is 1:00 p.m. Stay tuned to www.ubishops.ca/Gaiters for all of your Gaiters football action.
