Bishop’s University’s Annual Research Week
Sherbrooke - 17 April, 2008
Bishop's University held its 3rd annual Research Week from March 31st to April 4th. The event is designed to promote the University's research efforts. A variety of activities were offered such as poster research presentations, a special film screening and commentary on Borat, a lecture on islamophobia and the media as well as a tour of the universe via our observatory.
Over forty students submitted posters and presented them in one of the most highly attended events of the week. Several departments participated and the Department of Psychology had an exceptional presence with 10 Honours students presenting original data from their dissertations.
Awards for Best Poster:
1st place: Jean Bergeron from the Physics Department for his poster Sketching the Phase Diagram of a Frustrated Magnetic System.
2nd place: Ryan French-MacDougall, Rachel Duchesneau, Jean-Philippe Davis, Louis-Daniel Boulanger and Karl Bourassa from the History Department for their poster C.C. Colby Remington Typewriter: The Silent Thriller.
Third place: Tied between Ilana MacDonald from the Physics Department and Alex Cornemanfrom the Biochemistry Department. Their posters were titled The Casimir Effect in a Piston Geometry and Maintenance of the Hairpin Telomeres of the Lyme Disease Spirochete Borrealia burgdorferi respectively.
