Colonel Jamie Cade to speak at Bishop's University
Sherbrooke QC - 13 March, 2009
“Reflections on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan: Fulfilling Our Responsibilities in the World”
Colonel Jamie Cade has recently returned from Afghanistan where he was Deputy Commander of Canadian and NATO Forces throughout Kandahar Province from May 2008 to February 2009. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Bishop's University Speakers’ Committee as well as the Department of Religion. This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the counter-insurgency struggle currently taking place in the heart of Kandahar Province and to learn how Canadian Forces and NATO stood firm during one of the most tumultuous periods in the mission to date.
The Colonel will speak on NATO combat operations, the challenges of command during a demanding and complex mission marked with attacks on civilians, school children, government officials and religious leaders as well as the Sarpoza Prison break, and his views on what is required to achieve mission success. The public may be interested to learn of the advances being made by Canadian soldiers and civilians in spite of the difficult conditions in his conflict-stricken region. This will be a frank discussion of the challenges the Canadian Forces and NATO face in Afghanistan.
DATE: Thursday March 19th at 7:30 pm
LOCATION: Bandeen Hall at Bishop’s University
Admission is free. A reception will follow the lecture.
