JOHNNY REID COMES HOME TO BISHOP’S

SHERBROOKE, QC - 9 September, 2009

Bishop’s University is proud to welcome Johnny Reid back to  campus for a concert on October 2, 2009. Reid, a graduate of the Bishop’s class  of 1998, won the Canadian Country Music Association’s (CCMA) Rising Star Award  in 2006 and has since rocketed to the top of the charts.

In 2008 his album  “Kicking Stones” received platinum status selling over one million copies.  As a result, in 2008 he received CCMA awards  for “Top Selling Canadian Album” and “Male Artist” as well as a Juno Award nominee  for “Country Recording of the Year”.  His  latest album “Dance with Me” released in Canada in March 2009 has also gained  country music excellence.  It was  certified platinum just eight weeks after its release and has spent several  weeks at No. 1 on the Canadian Country Sales Chart.  When the 2009 CCMA nominations were announced  in Toronto on July 29 Johnny Reid led the way with a total of six major  nominations.

“We’re thrilled to  welcome one of Canada’s top music performers, and a proud Bishop’s graduate,  back to campus for Homecoming,” said Matt McBrine, Alumni Relations  Coordinator. “Johnny really began his singing career while studying at Bishop’s  and we’re grateful he remembers his roots.”
