Smashing Halloween Success Bishop’s students scare up 5000 pounds of food

Sherbrooke QC - 2 November, 2007

The 2007 version of  Trick or Eat was again organized by the Bishop’s University chapter of the Golden Key Honour Society in collaboration with the Students’ Representative Council, Bishop’s University Commerce Society, the Student Alumni Association, Sigma Chi fraternity, numerous other B.U. clubs, and Champlain College students.

Trick or Eat is a food drive conducted in the Borough of Lennoxville on Halloween night. Approximately 5000 pounds of non-perishable food items, enough to supply 75 families, was collected and will now be distributed to families and individuals through the Lennoxville & District Women’s Centre and the Cornerstone Food Bank.

On Sunday, October 28, 2007 student volunteers placed Trick or Eat pamphlets and empty bags on doors of homes in the Lennoxville area. Local residents, eager to help,

were incredibly generous and filled the bags with food in advance of the Halloween pickup. In addition, $510 in cash donations was collected to support the Lennoxville Elementary School Cafeteria Program.

“Trick or Eat is yet another example of the community spirit that exists between town and gown,” states Bruce Stevenson, Dean of Student Affairs. “A project like this helps to make Lennoxville a wonderful place to live – for students and community members alike. This is the largest amount raised in the history of our program at Bishop’s. I am proud of our students and of the Lennoxville community for their generosity.”
