As a first step toward the formation of the TLCI, the University Librarian and the Dean of Education invited Eileen Herteis to be the first presenter in the Teaching and Learning Centre Initiative Group series of workshops related to teaching and learning in higher education. On March 16, 2012, she gave two presentations to faculty from a variety of disciplines, one on the scholarship of teaching and the other on course content. About Eileen Herteis
Eileen Herteis is Director of the Purdy Crawford Teaching Centre at Mount Allison University, a position she has held since May, 2004. Until March 2004, she was the Programme Director at the University of Saskatchewan’s Gwenna Moss Teaching and Learning Centre. Before that, Eileen was Programme Coordinator at the Office of Instructional Development and Technology at Dalhousie University.
Eileen is the proud recipient of the University of Saskatchewan’s President’s Service Award, given to recognize her contributions to teaching and learning at that institution.
A native of Scotland, Eileen studied at Glasgow University, M.A (Hons.) in English and Latin, and received a scholarship to pursue her graduate studies at McGill University in Montreal. Eileen has taught English, Communications and Education classes in two colleges and five universities in Canada. Now devoting herself full-time to Educational Development, Eileen focuses her work on the scholarship of teaching and learning, teaching improvement, and portfolios—of every kind. With Nicola Simmons, Eileen authored the 2010 STLHE Green Guide, The Portfolio Process.
Eileen has given presentations throughout Canada, in the Caribbean, US and UK. She spent two years on the Steering Committee of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education; was a member of the editorial group for the popular STLHE Green Guide Series; served three times on the Selection Committee for the 3M National Teaching Fellowships; and has served on the Executive of the Educational Developers’ Caucus. Eileen chairs the Association of Atlantic Universities’ Coordinating Committee on Faculty Development.
