An investigation of the religious lives of early pagan, Jewish and Christian women in the context of the Graeco-Roman world. Literary and epigraphical sources from the fourth century BCE to the third century CE are analyzed in order to determine womens roles, rites and practices, with special attention to constructions of gender in the Graeco-Roman world.
