An examination of the role fo war in Canadian society and those factors which have influenced war and foreign policies. Some attention will be paid to the wars of the French regime, the War of 1812 and the Riel rebellions. The course will concentrate on the twentieth century: the South African War, the two world wars, Korea, and the role of Canadian diplomacy.
