3-0-6
This course is an introduction to the visual language and the materials and techniques
in painting. Through observational study, and with an emphasis on the language of
colour, pictorial syntax, and the articulation of space, students will develop a number of
personal images. These projects, in conjunction with weekly studio critiques will
increasingly challenge and help develop students critical and creative thought processes.
The study of key painting approaches in historical and contemporary painting will
be an integral component of the course. Students are expected to develop a portfolio
of the works and preparatory studies completed in class.
