A basic academic writing course or English for academic purposes (EAP). This course consists of classes and tutorials and is designed to improve students' skills in written English, especially in academic assignments. Emphasis is placed on the development and organization of ideas, on text clarity and coherence, on conventions of documentation, as well as on vocabulary, grammar, and syntax.





This course is normally open only to students who do not pass the EWP 099 exemption credit examination; for these students the course is a requisite for graduation from Bishop's. Other students who wish to enroll in the course may do so with the permission of the programme director. As every bachelor degree programme includes three compulsory credits for EWP099, this course cannot also be used as an elective. Students who pass the EWP 099 exc exam will be granted three exemption credits for EWP 099.
