An introduction to the physical and cultural geography of the Circumpolar North. This course will focus upon the cultural and political ecology of the human population in this region. The emphasis will be upon th contexts of human life and human experience in the North. This course also includes discussions of the northern landscape: nunamiut and kabloonamiut; demographic centralization; challenges to sovereignty over arctic space. The empahsis will be on lectures and class participation. There will be time set aside to discuss lecture topics and to add concerns of interest to the students; class participation is highly encouraged.

Prerequisite: ESG 100, ESG 126, ESG 162 or ESG 163
