This course examines the way late Victorian poets and prose writers overturned many of the cherished assumptions of High Victorianism. The poetry of Fitzgerald, the Rossettis, Meredith, and Hardy will be studied in relation to prose writings of Pater, Huxley, Morris, and Wilde.
