In this course we will begin with a study of the colourful wall paintings of Etruscan tombs where men and women drink and dance, and panthers and lions guard the dead. Once rulers of Rome, the Etruscans and their art declined as the Roman Republic grew powerful. We will examine how the Romans developed an innovative art and architecture.
