This course explores the chemistry of the hydrosphere and the terrestrial environment. Topics covered in the section on the hydrosphere include distribution of species in aquatic systems, gases in water, organic matter in water, metals and semi-metals in the hydrosphere, chemistry of colloids and surfaces, microbiological processes focusing on the carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles, and waster water treatment. Topics covered in the section on the terrestrial environment include physical and chemical properties of soil, and the chemistry of solid wastes.
Pre-requisites: CHE 106, CHE 144, CHE 227
Co-requisites : CHE 248
