This course explores the chemistry of the Earths atmosphere and energy sources, both natural and anthropogenic. Topics covered in the section on the atmosphere include the chemical composition of the atmosphere and solar influence, stratospheric chemistry and ozone, tropospheric chemistry focusing on smog formation and acid precipitation, atmospheric aerosols, urban and indoor atmospheres, and global warming and climate change. Topics covered in the section on energy include solar energy, fossil fuels and the oil industry, nuclear energy, and the hydrogen economy.
Pre-requisites: CHE103, CHE104, CHE105
