What a Tutor can/cannot do for you
A tutor can help you to clarify the concepts of the course material with which you are having difficulty . They can review these concepts with you in preparation for exams, and can also go over exam questions that you may have not been successful at answering.
Tutors cannot do assignments, papers, etc. They are there to help.
Application Information
Application forms are available at the Counselling Office. The registration is valid for one semester only. You are able to receive two hours of tutoring per course per week. You will be notified (through your mailbox or e-mail) as soon as a tutor is available. The application deadline is two weeks prior to the last day of classes. The last day of subsidized tutoring is the last day of classes. Please plan ahead.
When you are Assigned a Tutor
Once you have received the name, phone, and e-mail address of your tutor, you should contact him/her without delay. If the tutor does not hear from you within three days, then he/she will attempt to contact you. If you cannot be reached, it is assumed that you no longer need a tutor and another person (from the waiting list) will be assigned in your place.
It is recommended that you arrange for tutoring sessions to take place in a public area. Ex: Library
Cost
The Peer Tutoring Program is subsidized by the University for full time and part time student respectively. The cost for students (Part time/Full Time) therefore , is $5.00 per hour of tutoring received. If you receive tutoring as a part of a group, the cost will be less depending on the number of students in your group. Your portion of the fee is due at the end of the week in which you receive the service, and is payable at the Counselling Office.
