Convocation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Please read the following before contacting us.

How will I know if I’m graduating?
Once your application and final grades are received, your academic dossier will be reviewed by your Department Chair and Dean.  Your name will then be brought forward to the special meeting of Senate on May 15, 2013.  Shortly thereafter, the names of all eligible students will be posted on the website.   Students who have been deemed ineligible to graduate will also be notified at this time.

When will I know if I am graduating?
The names of the students eligible to graduate will be posted on the website shortly after May 15, 2013.  Students will also be mailed a letter. As there are a number of ceremonies, please consult the schedule to know which ceremony you should attend.

Where will the Convocation ceremony take place?
The Convocation ceremony will be held in beautiful Centennial Theatre on the Bishop’s University campus. Due to limited seating capacity, this is a ticketed event, and those without a ticket will not be admitted.

How many tickets will each student receive?
Each graduand is eligible for TWO guest tickets for the Convocation ceremony to be held in Centennial Theatre.  The ceremonies will also be streamed to other venues on campus.

Do I need to RSVP?
Yes. All students planning on attending should RSVP prior to May22, 2013. Please RSVP by using our online form.

When will I receive my tickets?
Your tickets will be made available when you pick-up your gown prior to your Convocation ceremony.

Can I have extra tickets?
As there is limited seating, we are guaranteeing two tickets per graduand to access Centennial Theatre.  Graduands who wish to request additional tickets may do so by completing the online form.

When will I know if I will get extra tickets?
Available tickets will be redistributed in the order in which the names were added to the wait-list. Every effort will be made by the Records Office to respond in a timely manner. You will be notified by e-mail and the additional tickets will be made available when you pick-up your gown.

Do you sell tickets?
Tickets for the Convocation ceremony are not for sale.

If I am graduating but not coming to Convocation, what should I do?
All students expected to graduate will be receiving an invitation and asked to confirm or decline their presence. Diplomas will be sent by mail to students not attending Convocation.

I have lost my tickets, what should I do? Can you re-issue them?
We are unable to replace lost tickets.

Where do I pick- up my gown?
Your gown can be picked up in the Molson Fine Arts building times to be determined and posted to the Convocation website.

Do the gowns close?
No, the gowns do not close entirely.

What should I wear?
We suggest business casual attire for women and men.

Can I keep the gown?
No. Unreturned gowns are billed $350.

Can I keep the mortar board?
Yes, the mortar board is a keepsake.
