The Graduate Record Examination (GRE)General InformationAll the following information is subject to change because as of June 2000, ETS is supposed to take over all procedures for registration as there have been many problems with the present information and registration centers (The Sylvan Center). Visit the GRE web site at http://www.gre.org Telephone: 514-876-8818 or 1-800-967-1100 Registration
You call the Registration Center at 1-800-473-2255, 3 weeks in advance for an appointment. However, if you plan to write the GRE in November or December, call 6 weeks in advance. We strongly suggest that you get rid of this test during the summer preceding your final year.
PracticeRegardless of what you are told we believe that practice is important in order to obtain the best score on the GRE. A GRE practice book is a must. The most recent books have an advantage on older books because strategies recommended to write the computer-based test are quite different from strategies that were used for the paper-based test. We have acquired several books over the years and have found that the best ones are published by ARCO. The Powerprep software can be downloaded directly from the GRE web site. It costs around $55.00 U.S. The advantage of this software (apart from its practice questions) lies in its two real-life simulations of the actual GRE. This will familiarize you with the test conditions you will encounter. |
