Discover The Biochemistry Department

The Biochemistry programme at Bishop's offers degree options in two separate streams, a concentration Chemistry and a concentration Biology, which provide a strong background in both biology and chemistry applicable to students looking to continue in the health or life sciences. Both streams offer an Honours degree, which rigorously prepares students for graduate studies or for professional schools, and a Majors degree, which provides students more flexibility in their programme.

The programme places strong emphasis on mastering the fundamentals of experimental biochemistry, and provides students with well equipped laboratory facilities, first-hand experience with modern laboratory equipment, and close instructional contact with professors The low student/professor ratio, which has typically averaged 10 to 15, favours a close interaction and personalized teaching.

Why study Biochemistry at Bishop’s?

Classe sizes in all biochemistry courses are small, which promotes close personal contact between members of the faculty and students. The faculty are also heavily involved in undergraduate laboratories, which enhances this personal contact and results in a friendly and very productive learning experience in experimental biochemistry.

The individual research project which each honours student must undertake with a minimum of supervision helps to instill the self-discipline so necessary to the practicing researcher.
