1. Monograph
Le Printemps de l’Amérique française. Américanité, anticolonialisme et républicanisme dans le discours politique québécois, 1805-1837. Montréal : Éditions du Boréal, 2005, 296 p.
My book is a complete reinterpretation of the dominant political discourse in Lower Canada from 1805 to 1837. It proves the persistence of civic humanist forms in francophone political discourse and establishes the importance of the “American” component in the shaping of Quebecois national identity in this period. The book was reviewed favorably in the RHAF, Le Devoir, l’Action nationale, Globe, and Nuit Blanche. It was also the focus of Argument’s feature “Autour d’un livre” in its spring 2006 issue, a debate which included Éric Bédard, Yvan Lamonde, Jean-Paul Bernard and Gilles Laporte.
