Amy Lee Lavoie

Amy Lee Lavoie

Amy Lee Lavoie (2006) is currently in her 3rd year of the playwriting program at the National Theatre School (NTS) in Montreal. Her play, Tuning Venus, was produced by Blue Muse Productions in the Montreal Fringe Festival this June. It was an exciting project in that it brought together the talents of Bishop's graduates - Cristina Cugliandro, Naomi Aldrich, Sarah-Marie Langlois, Kat Weldon and Michael Broadhurst. This two-hander was directed by Bishop’s professor, Greg Tuck, and performed by Amy Lee and Michael. The play received a Frankie Award for "Best English Text."

Rabbit Rabbit, conceived in Amy Lee's first year at the theatre school went on to be a part of Inifinitheatre's Pipeline series in November 2008 in which it was workshopped with Guy Sprung and read for the public with Amy Lee as Britney and Eric Goulem as Larry. Through the Cultural Artistic Leadership Program offered through NTS, Amy Lee and a group of fellow students were able to finance and subsequently produce a workshop production of Rabbit Rabbit at the SummerWorks Festival in Toronto and the Edmonton Fringe Festival this summer. SummerWorks offered Rabbit Rabbit a spot in CanStage's Ideas and Creation Festival and was chosen to be part of the S.L.I.P initiative new to the Festival this year. It allowed members of the program to see a performance of Rabbit Rabbit and a chance to participate in a Q&A with our production team.

Rabbit Rabbit will receive it's premiere production under the direction of Guy Sprung in Infinitheatre's 2009/10 season. Performances run from November 10-29.

Amy Lee is currently working on a new play for her graduating class with Judith Thompson as dramaturge. It will be performed in the New Words Festival.
