Café Scientifique: Community Invited to Celebrate International Astronomy Day at the Bishop’s University Observatory

Professional and amateur astronomers at Bishop’s University will be teaming up with the Club des astronomes amateurs de Sherbrooke to celebrate International Astronomy Day this coming Saturday, May 14th. The public is invited to take part in the family-friendly activities that are being offered within Bishop’s University’s Café Scientifique Series to underscore this special day.

Johnville Bog & Forest Park

6:30 p.m.: Guided trek through the park

8:30 p.m.: Observation of the moon, Jupiter and Mars under the guidance of amateur astronomers – event will take place in French.

Bishop’s University Observatory (Nicolls)

1:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.: Guided visits to the observatory, information booths, experimentation with a variety of telescopes. Weather permitting, observations of the sun during daytime and of various celestial objects during nighttime will be part of the program. Visitors are invited to drop in at their convenience.

These International Astronomy Day Celebrations are included in NSERC’s Science Odyssey event, which aims to promote the sciences to youth all over the country.
