BISHOP’S UNIVERSITY RECEIVES A PRESTIGIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

Sherbrooke, November 13, 2015 – Bishop’s University received a Pilier d’Or award from the Association des gestionnaires des parcs immobiliers institutionnels (AGPI) for its energy efficiency project.

This $8M project is expected to provide energy savings of 40,656 gigajoules (GJ), for annual savings of roughly $472,000.

From an environmental perspective, a 40,656 GJ reduction would be equivalent to:

  • Reducing CO2 emissions by 2,364 annually
  • Heating approximately 350 dwellings of 2000 sq. ft.
  • Planting roughly 13,906 trees

This project was carried out by the University’s Buildings and Grounds Department, in collaboration with an external firm. The project was funded by a capital investment grant from Quebec’s Ministry of Education, through the Plan quinquennal des investissements universitaires (PQI).

Each year, this award is given to an institution for a project submitted in the technical and innovation category.

In the same award ceremony, Michel Caron, the recently retired Director of the Buildings and Grounds Department, received an award in recognition of his contributions as an institutional property manager.
