BISHOP’S UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES THE CIBC BUSINESS BURSARIES

Bishop’s University is pleased to announce that CIBC has made a $200,000 donation to establish the CIBC Business Bursaries. Over the next four years, the bursaries will be awarded to business students who require financial support to pursue their studies.

Preference will be provided to those participating in the co-operative education program at the Williams School of Business (WSB).

The co-operative education program complements the WSB’s academic program with integrated work experiences through full-time work terms and regular academic sessions.  The work terms are designed to give students the opportunity to blend theory and practice and to gain relevant work experience. This summer, 37 students in Business and three students in Computer Science participated in the co-operative education program.

“This gift will have a significant impact on the students at the Williams School of Business,” said Michael Goldbloom, C.M., Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Bishop’s University. “We are deeply committed to ensuring that all students who would like to come to Bishop’s – and who have the intellectual capacity and determination to do so – are able to join our community regardless of their financial circumstances.  We are very grateful to CIBC for this important investment in our students.”

“We are thrilled to receive this donation from CIBC,” said Francine Turmel, Dean of the Williams School of Business. “The co-operative program is added value for the students who participate because they are well equipped for success in the workforce when they graduate.”

“CIBC is very pleased to support Bishop’s University, a highly respected institution with shared values of advancing student opportunity and investing in our leaders of tomorrow,” says Sylvain Vinet, Senior Vice President and Region Head, Eastern Canada. “This donation supports our commitment to helping students achieve their academic and career goals, and we wish the first recipients the greatest of success.”

CIBC BUSINESS BURSARIES

One of the main goals of the University’s Leading the Way Campaign is to raise funds for scholarships and bursaries. This gift will support Bishop’s in helping the students who need it the most.

Bishop’s University, which was founded in 1843, is a predominantly residential, undergraduate university in Sherbrooke, Quebec. It provides a high quality education in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, business, and education. Its small size (2,400 full time students) allows students to develop close relationships with their professors and each other.
