Bishop’s University Announces Honorary Doctorate Recipients at its 188th Convocation

Sherbrooke, June 2, 2016 – On June 3 and 4, Chancellor Brian Levitt, O.C., will preside over Convocation ceremonies at Bishop’s University. The institution announced today that, in addition to conferring some 640 degrees on members of the class of 2016, four notable individuals will be recognized for their outstanding professional achievements and their service to society.

Honorary doctorates in Civil Law will be conferred on: Mr. Abel Bosum, Cree negotiator and former Chief of the Oujé-Bougoumou Cree Nation; Ms. Sophie Brochu, C.M., President and CEO of Gaz Métro; Mr. Xavier Dolan, filmmaker, actor and writer; and Ms. Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, former Deputy Premier of Quebec and Member of the National Assembly for Saint-François for 27 years.

Michael Goldbloom, C.M., Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said: ‘‘We are very pleased to recognize the remarkable achievements of these four exceptional individuals. We very much look forward to having them address our graduating students at Convocation.’’

On Friday, June 3, an afternoon Convocation ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. for graduates earning degrees in Business and certificates. On Saturday morning, June 4, a ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. for graduates earning degrees in Humanities and Education. Graduates receiving degrees in the Natural and Social Sciences will participate in an afternoon ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on June 4.

Graduating students Gabrielle Patenaude, Alexander Roy and Anna Rogic have been selected as valedictorians for Convocation 2016. They will each speak at one of the ceremonies.
