Alumni Association

If you graduated from Bishop’s, you know that Purple Pride doesn’t disappear after convocation! Once you experience Purple it becomes a part of you, and neither time nor distance can change that. The Bishop’s University Alumni Association exists to help you stay connected to, and engaged with, your alma mater and fellow Gaiters no matter how many kilometers or years separate you from Bishop’s.

Alumni Association – President’s message

The Bishop’s University Alumni Association (BUAA) represents more than 19,000 graduates. Your Alumni Association exists to foster a closely knit Bishop’s community, and to contribute to the ongoing success of our University. Volunteers constitute the lifeblood of the BUAA; they help us fulfill our goal of claiming the most engaged alumni of any academic institution in Canada. Volunteers serve on our BUAA Executive, and recent changes to it include:

  • Thank you to Chris Forsythe ’99, who gave plenty of time and support over the past two years while acting as President;
  • Welcome to Mark Lawson ’09 who will help us engage younger alumni by determining the type of events to plan and the best methods of communication.

Volunteers in our chapters from coast to coast (and beyond) organize events to help us achieve our objectives. With their assistance, we aim to hold a social, cultural and family event in each chapter – these in addition to business networking and mentoring events that have been well received by alumni in several cities.

Bishop’s is a special place that fosters a sense of service. The BUAA executive believes in carrying this torch of opening doors and works to encourage alumni from all generations to maintain a close connection to one another and to our school. Thanks to all the volunteers who’ve strengthened the bond over the years. We hope others will choose to help in the future and will contact our Alumni and Development Office to learn how: alumni@ubishops.ca.

Chapters and volunteering

Alumni chapters

Bishop’s alumni chapters are found coast to coast and around the world. Events are organized to keep the Bishop’s spirit alive, and our goal is to provide different events that appeal to all alumni demographics, with a focus on social, cultural, networking and family events. Over the course of a year, chapter volunteers in the major demographic regions and the Bishop’s University Alumni and Development Office work together to provide events covering these main categories.

Visit the events page to see what’s coming up in your area. If you are interested in organizing an event or joining the volunteer team in your region, contact alumni@ubishops.ca and we’ll connect you!

Volunteering

Whatever your connection to Bishop’s and wherever you live in the world, the Bishop’s University Alumni Association offers volunteering opportunities that suit your interests and fit your schedule. Our goal is to make volunteering a fun and rewarding experience! There are numerous ways for alumni to volunteer at Bishop’s – many without even coming to campus! Some of the ways graduates volunteer include:

  • Organizing/participating in alumni events
  • Assisting with student recruitment
  • Prospecting and canvassing donors
  • Mentoring
  • ASK (Alumni Sharing Knowledge)

Testimonials

“Bishop’s has provided me with some of the people and years that I cherish most in my life. “ASK” (Alumni Sharing Knowledge) Program

Bishop’s has many accomplished alumni. The University Advancement Office has introduced a program in which we hope to engage these individuals with faculty and students by inviting them to campus as guest speakers. Many faculty members already invite graduates into their classrooms. This program would formalize and expand these practices. If you are interested in participating in this program please contact alumni@ubishops.ca.
