Constitution

ARTICLE 1:  Name

The name of this organization will be the Student Alumni Association.  The acronym for this organization will be "SAA".

ARTICLE 2:  Objectives

  1. To promote Bishop’s University to prospective and current students, alumni & friends of the University, faculty and staff in conjunction with the Bishop’s Alumni Association.
  2. To organize activities and events, to raise money for scholarships, to promote the objectives of the association to the student body and Alumni Association.
  3. To create alliances with other Student/Alumni Associations in North America.

ARTICLE 3:  Membership

  1. Voting members include any person who is a member in good standing with the Student’s Association of Bishop’s University, as well as any member in good standing with the Alumni Association.  Students will make up at least two thirds of the membership.
  2. Honourary members include any person not a member of Bishop’s University Student’s Association who shows a keen interest in the SAA.
  3. Any member who does not make a satisfactory contribution to the SAA may be removed from the membership list by at least two thirds vote of the members.

ARTICLE 4: Voting

The SAA shall have one method of voting on motions, pending adoption, in which each eligible member shall cast one vote.  A motion will be considered adopted if passed by majority, that being 51% of overall membership.

ARTICLE 5:  Duties

  1. All SAA executive positions are for a one year term. 
  2. The President is responsible for the overall supervision of the SAA and ensures that all policies and actions approved by the general membership of the Executive Committee are properly implemented.  The President presides at general meetings.
  3. The Vice-President is responsible for relations between the SAA.  Alumni and activities and events that require involvement from organizations and individuals within and beyond Bishop’s University.  The V.P. will assume the duties of the President in her or his absence.
  4. A Recording Secretary designated to take minutes for SAA meetings and post them after each meeting will be chosen in the Fall.

ARTICLE 6:  Amendments

Amendments to this constitution will be considered adopted by a vote of two thirds plus one of the members of the SAA.
