On the level of the B.Sc. in mathematics of the Université de Sherbrooke, which is a cooperative program, the team is directly responsible of the five compulsory algebra courses :

The team also directs students during their periods of training under the cooperative program of the UdeS. The four months training, with pay, occurs most of the time during the last three terms of the undergraduate studies.

The team strongly encourages its M.Sc. students to try to establish original results. So far, all those which have tried managed to do it. In many years, these results lead to a research report, a presentation by the author in the Quebec Mathematics Colloquium or in an international conference, or even to a publication in an international journal.

To start research in algebra, it suffices to pass two M.Sc courses.

It is obviously also necessary to follow optional courses in other areas in order to develop his or her mathematical culture.

The unique objective of a Ph.D. is the training of researchers able to pursue by themselves an original research work. It amounts therefore to train the researchers of tomorrow, those who will work, in a university or in industry, for the advance of knowledge in their area. The Ph.D. necessarily consists of an original research and the results must be of a high level.
