Discover The Sociology Department

The Department provides students with theoretical and methodological tools and substantive insights which can assist them in understanding social life, social organization, and action. Our programmes are designed to provide students with a broad intellectual and sociological background which will help prepare them for a variety of careers and for advanced study at graduate school. The small size of our programme and the dedication of our faculty, allow us to provide personal attention to students and extensive access to faculty. Having relatively few requirements (seven courses in the Major), we allow students substantial flexibility in meeting individual intellectual pursuits.

Message from the Chair

People at BU
  • Andréanne Roy, '07

Andréanne spent the 2007-2008 school year in Rastatt, Germany where she worked as a high school French language assistant. In September 2008, she started a Master's Degree in German Studies at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

"During the eight months I spent in Germany, I had the opportunity to meet other people from the language assistant program, go to the book fair in Frankfurt, and visit many museums and historic sites. Moreover I used my free time to read and do research for my current Masters thesis. This experience helped me learn a great deal about German culture and improve my knowledge of the language, which will be very useful for my future career as a professor."
