The department of Sociology at Bishop's encourages you to come to a better understanding of your own place in the world. This applies to many aspects of your life ranging from your ethnic and sexual identity to the way that you relate to institutions and what your philosophical perspectives are about community, capitalism, family, technology, social policy, or the use and distribution of the planet’s resources. It is a very broad range of study, making room for you to focus on which ever themes capture your own imagination as you will see if you consider our six different concentrations. We are very proud that this small department can provide such breadth and depth of analysis. The excitement our students develop while learning to think sociologically, then learning to challenge those perspective and push into even more original ways of viewing the world carries them into many different careers. It is a joy to work with new scholars (of all ages) in small class rooms with manageable numbers so that students and faculty can get to know each other during your time here. I hope you will be joining us here soon.
