Constance Card (Class of 1998)

Constance works as a Customer Service Representative at the Electrical Safety Authority in Cambridge, Ontario. She writes: “…this is a unionized work place and I am a Union Steward for the Power Worker's Union and was a Bargaining Agent, for the Clerical Staff, at the most recent ratified Collective Agreement.  I also sit on the Pay Equity Committee for the Power Worker's Union and the Partnership Committee for the Union as well.  …my backgrounds in both Sociology and Women’s Studies have prepared me for such as position particularly when it comes to debating issues. I find that I am relying upon my background in Industrial Sociology, Political Sociology, Gender Relations and Dialectical Reasoning a great deal.  …I also, work ‘on call’ at a local women's shelter as a Case Worker and Counselor.  I have two small businesses which are doing well considering all of my other obligations.  I restore and refinish antiques and paint oil and acrylic paintings on consignment.  I am hoping to have a show at the Cambridge Public Library in the near future to display my art work and have sold a number of pieces privately. My daughter Page is in Grade Three French Immersion, fully bilingual, and doing very well.  …Page has already indicated that she would like to go to Bishop's! Nothing would thrill me more! I remember my first class with Michael Lustigman (Dialectical Reasoning) -- I went home and called my Mom and told her I knew nothing and it was the right decision that I attend University.  In fact, both Dr. Coulter and Dr. Lustigman offered much support during my time at Bishop's.”
