Melanie Griffin (Class of 1996)

Melanie graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario with her Law Degree (LL.B.) in 2000. She writes: “I articled at Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP in Ottawa shortly thereafter and was hired back as an Associate Lawyer in 2002.  After a year practicing Insurance Defense in the litigation department of Gowlings, I decided to go ‘in-house’ and joined the Legal and Risk Management Division of Canadian Blood Services (CBS) in January 2003 as one of six Legal Counsel. CBS is truly an amazing organization comprised of dedicated, caring people and I thoroughly enjoy working here. Peter MacTavish and I were married in January 2002 in St. Lucia, West Indies.  We live in Rockland, Ontario (a town 20 minutes east of Ottawa) with our two Siberian huskies. Peter, who made the trek from Kingston (Queen's) to Lennoxville every weekend while I was at Bishop's, has recently been called to the Ontario Bar and currently looking for the ‘perfect’ legal job in Ottawa.  I keep in touch with a number of BU Alumni who live in Canada and the U.S. And of course, I am in constant contact with an excellent group of girls I met at Bishop's 10 years ago when we all lived in the MacKinnon residence. … While at BU, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Dr. Clark-Jones on my Honours thesis. I wish her all the best in her retirement.”
