Dr. Andrew J. Stritch
Departmental Chairperson

Dr. Andrew J. Stritch obtained his Ph.D. from Queen's University in 1986. He also holds a BA from Exeter University and an MA from Lancaster University in England, and was awarded the Diploma of the International Graduate School at Stockholm University. His research interests revolve around American and Canadian public policy, workers' compensation policy, and business-government relations and he has written several books and articles in these areas.

Dr. Gilbert Gagné

Dr. Gilbert Gagné obtained a D.Phil. in International Relations from the University of Oxford in 1995. He also holds a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of Ottawa. His research and teaching interests revolve around international regimes and organizations, North American integration, Canadian foreign policy and Canadian- American relations. Dr. Gagné has published extensively in these areas and currently serves as an academic referee for the Canadian government's policy research project on North American Linkages.

Dr. Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé

Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé has a Ph.D. in Political Science from McGill University. Her research focuses on peace operations and security issues related to fragile states. Her doctoral dissertation strived to understand the conditions under which peace operations succeeded or failed. She studied the cases of Somalia, Liberia and Sierra Leone.   Her fieldwork was completed in West Africa, Ethiopia (Ogaden region) and South Africa, where she interviewed military commanders, rebel leaders, refugees and experts. Her most recent publications include “Assessing Peace Operations' Mitigated Outcomes”, International Peacekeeping, Volume 19, no.2, 1 April 2012, pp.235-250.  She published on peace operations’ strategies as well as on issues related to the integration of energy markets in the Americas. She is associate faculty member of the Center for International Peace and Security Studies, Interuniversity Consortium for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies and Women in International Security.

Dr. Heather McKeen-Edwards

Dr. Heather McKeen-Edwards was awarded a Ph.D. in Political Science by McMaster University in 2009. She also holds an M.A. from McMaster and a B.A. Honours from the University of Manitoba. Her research and teaching interests revolve around International Political Economy, International Relations and Global Public Policy; particularly issues around international finance, private authority and transnational public-private governance, transnational private associations and European financial integration. Along with her dissertation focus on the discourses of risk and international financial services governance, she is currently working on a book on the impact of transnational private associations in finance with Tony Porter. She has previously published co-written articles on financial sector integration in Europe and North America.

Dr. Trygve Ugland

Dr. Trygve Ugland was educated at University of Oslo and Queen's University of Belfast (Ph.D. University of Oslo, 2002). His research and teaching interests lie in the fields of Comparative Politics and Comparative Public Policy, with a focus on European and Scandinavian Politics. His work has appeared, for example, in the journals Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of Public Policy, The European Legacy and Scandinavian Political Studies. Dr. Ugland's latest book tells the story of how Jean Monnet's encounters with Canada and Canadians between 1907 and 1914 played a vital role, both as inspiration and as enduring reference point, in his project of uniting Europe (Jean Monnet and Canada: Early Travels and the Idea of European Unity, University of Toronto Press, 2011).

Don Dombowsky did his graduate study at the University of Ottawa and the New School for Social Research. He has taught a range of introductory and seminar courses for the Philosophy, Politics and International Studies, and Liberal Arts programs on selected topics in the history of philosophy, politics and art.

Prof. William Hogg
Part-time professor

Professor William Hogg is completing a Ph.D. at McGill University in International Relations, and received an M.A. from McMaster University and B.A. from the University of Ottawa . His research interests include Canadian foreign policy, strategic studies, international political economy, and European integration. He has two recent articles in the International Journal in 2004, titled respectively "Arms Control in Turbulent Times: Canada and the Future of the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty" and "Plus ça Change: Continuity, Change and Culture in Canadian Foreign Policy White Papers". He is currently working on the examination of Canadian strategic culture and the study of current trends in Canadian arms control policy.
