“Starlight” discussed the topic of how astronomers create beautiful images of the night sky using various telescopes and filters. “Detecting the Invisible Universe” probes deeper into the topic of creating images of celestial objects that emit most of their light outside of the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum by taking an in-depth look at Brown Dwarfs. Brown Dwarfs are very cool, sub-stellar objects that emit most of their light in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. “Detecting the Invisible Universe” discusses how theoretical astrophysics and high-performance computing can be used to predict what the next generation of space-based infrared telescopes will detect.

THIS TALK IS PRESENTED AT A LEVEL THAT IS APPROPRIATE FOR UNIVERSITY OR CEGEP STUDENTS.
