Astronomical population synthesis is a very powerful research tool used in astrophysics. It allows for the study of the evolution of large populations of stellar objects or even entire galaxies in a very ingenious way. This talk will lay out the general methods for population synthesis studies as used in astrophysics and discuss its advantages, underlying assumptions, and problems. Further, it will address in detail the process of the Monte-Carlo approach for population synthesis. The direct application of this method will be presented through a population synthesis analysis of Cataclysmic Variables.
THIS TALK IS INTENDED FOR UNIVERSITY OR CEGEP STUDENTS.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BRING YOUR LUNCH!
