I will make a broad presentation of the field of Data Mining, covering its objectives and methods. The overall objective is to discover interesting features in data, particularly when the data are voluminous. The particular care in preparing the data for analysis, the complementary aspects of the diverse approaches and models, the need for human interactivity, the prudence required in making conclusions will be stressed. Data Mining is as much an art as a science.
