Dark energy is a mysterious form of energy that accounts for 70% of the content of the universe. It has been introduced to explain the recent discovery that the universe is undergoing an accelerated expansion. Dark energy is very exotic: certain consequences of its unusual properties will be discussed, including negative pressure, the possible end of the universe in a Big Rip singularity at a finite time in the future, and the fate of black holes and wormholes in a dark-energy-dominated universe.
