Science Colloquium

Sex? Drugs? Remote Sensing?... find out what really goes on at CARTEL (Centre d'applications et de recherches en teledetection)

Norman O'Neill
Universite de Sherbrooke

Friday, April 15, 2005
12:00 - 1:00 PM
Hamilton Room 301

The talk will be geared towards students who might be interested in doing graduate work at the Universite de Sherbrooke in environmental remote sensing. A brief review of research activities at CARTEL will be given followed by a more specific look at atmospheric remote sensing activities. Current atmospheric research activities include the revival of the Eureka high-Arctic atmospheric observatory, the development of an on-line modelling system for predicting aerosol concentration anywhere in Canada, and a project for comparing passive aerosol (optical) measurements of the atmosphere with lidar (pulsed laser) backscatter measurements. The relevance of these activities in terms of potential career opportunities will also be briefly presented.
