In this talk I will introduce in an as-non-technical-as-possible way the intriguing possibility that gravity and in particular several key gravitational phenomena (such as black hole radiation) may be simulated in the lab through the use of a general analogy that exists between gravitational systems and condensed matter systems. This talk in intended as a very first introduction to the (exciting) field of research known as "analogue gravity".
