Dr. Dale J. Wood
Department of Chemistry

Dr. Wood is involved in the synthesis and characterization of carbon-nitrogen containing conjugated heterocycles and polymers and their incorporation into transition metal complexes.

Carbon-nitrogen containing heterocycles such as pyrroles and indoles have been shown to exhibit numerous desirable properties such as anti-tumour and anti-biotic behaviour and thus invesitigation of new routes to their synthesis and synthesis of new carbon-nitrogen containing compounds represents an important contribution to the field.

Conjugated heterocycles and polymers have been shown to exhibit interesting photonic nd electron transport properties that make them important In the development of materials such as light-emitting diodes, photovoltaic devices, and conducting plastics. Their coordination to transition metals can often enhance these properties and represents an important area of research in this area.

Dr. Wood has supervised numerous undergraduate honours students since coming to Bishop's University in 2001, many of whom will appear as authors on peer-reviewed Publication of his research in top-line Chemical journals. Dr. Wood's research programme Is growing as new and exciting results are being discovered regularly and undergraduate Researchers, both honours students and summer interns, have played a crucial role.
